Toma Pueyo wrote an interesting article on the cost of respiratory illnesses in his Uncharted Territories blog on Substack. He estimated that the average person misses about 1.5 days of work per year due to respiratory illnesses. He also estimated that the average working day is worth about $280.00. Together, these figures indicate that the average worker loses at least $420 per year in productivity.

Since there are about 145 million full-time employees in the United States, respiratory illnesses cause at least $61 billion per year in lost productivity in this country alone!
